VVS FFA Chapter Officers Prepare for the Year to Come

VERONA – Officials of the FFA section of the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central School District seized many opportunities this summer to ensure they were ready to lead the organization into another successful year, officials say of the district.

The chapter leaders for the 2021-2022 school year are:

Elizabeth Schieferstine, president;

Troy Sears, vice-president;

Devon Conley, secretary;

Brenden Genei, treasurer;

Jarrod Scroggs, journalist; and

Zachary Adams, Sentry.

To get the officers to know each other better and get more work done in a short time, they camped in central New York City with their advisor, Justin Ferreira, August 3-5.

On the first day, they pitched all of their tents and spent time planning the FFA’s program of activities (POA). On day two, they completed the POA, worked on a design for this year’s FFA t-shirt, and received their new officer jackets.

In addition, they set goals and created their annual budget, together with the FFA Commercial Director, which was presented by the Treasurer and voted on by the members at the first membership meeting in September. On the third day, the officers completed the basic design of the FFA t-shirt.

The FFA officer team spent most of their time working and planning the FFA year ahead, but they were also able to spend time having fun. On the first day, for fun, most of the officers tried to catch frogs or relax after pitching their tents. Before dinner, officers lit a campfire and kept it well maintained, officials said. On the second day, officers spent their free time wandering around part of the woods, greeting farm animals, chasing chickens, or doing team activities for fun. In the evening they had s’mores and ice cream. On the last day, the officers finished their work and then proceeded to pack their tents and whatever else they had brought with them.

A few days after the officer’s retirement ended, some of the officers worked at Vernon Old Home Days to sell maple syrup produced by VVS FFA. Old Home Days workers included Adams, Conley, Scroggs, Sears and side members Jackie and Steve Adams.

Those interested in purchasing FFA maple syrup products in small or large quantities can call Ferreira at 315-829-2520 to place an order.
