WE Hires UK’s First Head of Corporate Reputation & Brand Purpose
LONDON – WE Communications has hired its first UK Corporate Reputation and Brand Purpose Manager, in response to growing client demand for work in this area.
Kemi Akindele joins the agency on January 5 from Freuds, where she was Associate Director since 2019, working with clients such as Prince William’s Earthshot Prize and AB InBev, as well as projects focused on the United Nations General Assembly, the World Economic Forum and COP26. .
Akindele was previously Digital and Social Media Manager at Regeneration Developer U + I and Digital Manager at Hanover Communications. She also worked in Portland and Edelman.
In her new role, Akindele will work across all of WE’s businesses, including consumer, tech and healthcare customers. She will report to London Managing Director Ruth Allchurch and will also work closely with Hannah Peters, responsible for corporate reputation and the agency’s brand focus in North America, who has joined H + K Strategies in January.
Allchurch told PROvoke Media: âWe are coming out of a huge growth in the UK of 44% last year and we are heading towards 22% this year, and that has been driven by organic growth in executive communications, the sustainability, purpose and thought leadership. working with companies like Intel, Microsoft, Cap Gemini and Amcor, where we operate at the c-suite level.
âThere are so many requests from our tech and healthcare clients that touch on corporate and branding goal work, and this was a good time to find someone who would be keen to create a roadmap for developing our corporate goal offering in the UK. “
Allchurch said the search took about six months: ‘It’s a tough market from a talent perspective, regardless of level or specialization, but as this is a new role in the UK , it was vitally important that we find someone who is at the right level to take the next step in their personal journey, who had the ambition to develop an offer within the agency and who was an entrepreneur rather than from a traditional corporate agency. “
She said it had been a ‘reunion of mind’ when she and Akindele met: “Kemi is a natural communicator and connector. She brings an incredible experience to Freuds, and having her in our stable will thrill our people. existing customers and inspire our teams.
âIt’s rare to find someone who truly understands the inner workings of client organizations and can immediately have very natural conversations with executives in the private, public and NGO sectors. We are opening up new territories and I am really excited about the next few months and Kemi building his vision with our support.
Akindele said she also spent some time thinking about her next decision after two years of working on sustainability, purpose and thought leadership at Freuds: âI had a lot of conversations with different people and n ‘ve heard good things about WE. When I met Ruth she understood what I was looking for.
âBuilding a team that’s dedicated to the company and the brand is an incredible opportunity, and there aren’t many places you can do it. For me, the ambition and the pressure to develop a team and ‘bringing in new business is the point of being in an agency, as well as providing great client work. It’s a big challenge for me and I feel like I’m in a good position. “
